The special adviser to the Edo state governor on media and communication strategy, Mr Crusoe Osagie has denied media reports that there was a clash between Governor Godwin Obaseki and his deputy, Comrade Philip Shaibu.

In a statement sent to journalists on Saturday, August 1 Osagie said the falsehood could only have emanated from the camp of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).

The governor’s spokesman accused the APC of having no substance in their campaign, adding that the opposition party is “only adept at spinning the rumour mill and concocting alternative facts to massage the egos of their paymasters.”

He further accused the APC of shying away from an issue-based campaign “but rely primarily on tale-telling and propaganda.”

Part of the statement read: “The lie that there was a clash between the governor and his deputy should be dismissed in its entirety. Whatever incident they allude to only exists in the imagination of the purveyors.

“There was indeed a meeting with key stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which ended with everyone in high spirit. There was a spirit of cordiality and everyone shared their ideas and inputs on how to deliver the party in the September 19 governorship election.”

Osagie advised the general public to disregard the rumours and urged Edo people to vote en-masse for Obaseki and Shaibu in the September 19 governorship election.

In an earlier report by Legit.ng, Shaibu dismissed the allegation that he is on a warpath with his boss.

He said the report was an effort by those who are afraid of the unity that exists between him and Obaseki to mislead people.

This was contained in a statement released by the senior special assistant to the deputy governor, Benjamin Atu.

Meanwhile, Governor Obaseki has accused the leadership of the APC in the state of planning violence and importing arms to intimidate and harass his supporters ahead of the election.

The governor made the comment while receiving Muslim leaders at Government House, in Benin city on Friday, July 31, who came to pay Sallah homage to him.

“As I speak to you now, you can’t imagine that police from Abuja are already in the state and have been paid to arrest our supporters.

“They have been paid by a billionaire to arrest Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) supporters in the state. This billionaire sponsored the attacks on me and other PDP governors at the palace. This is to tell you the level of corruption and impunity we face,” he told the delegation.
