Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is reportedly interested in signing Barcelona midfielder to strengthen his squad for next season.

But the Croatian star whose contract with the Catalans expire in the summer of 2021 is not ready to leave the Camp Nou just yet.

The 32-year-old joined the Blaugrana from Sevilla in July 2014 and has been an integral part of the squad since then.

However, Sunsport reports that the 2018 FIFA World Cup finalist would rather rejoin Los Palanganas in a deal worth about £9 million.

Rakitic has won 13 major titles since he joined his present club six years ago – including the Champions League title he won with them in 2015.

Meanwhile, Barca chiefs are open to selling him and cut down on their wage bill as part of ways to handle their financial issues owing to coronavirus.

The Catalans will have to cash in on him this summer if they don’t want him to walk out of the club for free.

Rakitic is not fan of the Premier League but clubs like Juventus, Manchester United, and Tottenham have enquired about him.

SunSport reports that French news outlet claim Gunners boss Arteta telephoned Rakitic direct but the Croat is not too keen.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic has explained that he is ready to return back to the pitch and play football even if it will be at the expense of him contracting coronavirus.
